Elspeth’s return to Insurance

Elspeth’s return to Insurance

Elspeth Fairgrieve is a qualified lawyer who had taken a five year career break for health reasons.  She had taken a role working for a charity but had begun to think about returning to her career as a lawyer when she saw an advert for the Cross Sector Insurance Returner programme.

We spoke to Elspeth about her experience and also to Stephanie Scrimgeour, of The Phoenix Group, where Elspeth now works.

How did you find the application process?……

I nervously applied for a role which I saw advertised through Inclusivity and received a call. I couldn’t have been made to feel more at ease. They were efficient, encouraging and energising.

What support did you receive through the process?

The help and encouragement I received from Inclusivity boosted my confidence and made me believe in myself which may have come over at the interview.  I was successful at interview and started work in August.

What advice would you give to others?

Taking time out of your career whatever the reason is tough when you want to return. Inclusivity have a fabulous model to help you along the way – and they’re fun to chat to! I still have my coaching sessions to help me through the early weeks for which I’m really grateful. This is a great programme so if you’re hesitant about a return to work, don’t be.

What made Phoenix take part in the pilot programme?

We are always looking for talented people and this seemed like a great opportunity to find some of the candidates you wouldn’t see through the normal channels.

How easily did Elspeth transition back into work?

Elspeth has settled really well into the team and back into her role of lawyer. Right  from the start she has made a valuable contribution and her skill and experience comes through. It has also made such a difference to me having another experienced lawyer to support the business. As a result I have offered her a permanent position which she has accepted

What plans do you have for the future?

I feel very lucky to have had Elspeth’s CV land on my desk and for her to become part of my team. I know that it would have never happened had it not been for the returner programme put together by Inclusivity.
